Thank you for visiting the Kumon Clonmel Study Centre.
My name is Yvonne Dillon-O’Rourke and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Clonmel Study Centre.
I am both a qualified teacher in Accountancy and Mathematics, as well as a Chartered Certified Accountant.
Prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor I spent many years teaching both maths and accounting. I began my teaching journey teaching in Lesotho, in Southern Africa and subsequently worked as a secondary school teacher and accounting technician lecturer here in Ireland. I found that I not only love working with young people, but I am also very good at helping them learn.
As a former teacher I truly understand the importance of allowing children to learn for themselves rather than spoon-feeding them, however, in a teaching environment, with syllabus and exam pressures, it can be very difficult to provide this environment for a large class of students.
Kumon provides this opportunity for all students. I heard about Kumon through a friend and when I researched the Kumon programmes I loved them and really wanted my own children to benefit from them.
I opened my centre in September 2014 and I already see first-hand the benefits Kumon has to offer. My eldest three children are all studying Kumon. My 14 year old is developing the stamina she will need to sit through her impending exams and developing the skills for solving maths problems in the most efficient way as well as summarising texts. My ten year old is developing a more positive attitude to work; homework is no longer the drawn out affair it used to be. And finally my 6 year old has developed in confidence so much she is almost a different child. She has gone from a child who struggled with phonics and blending to a child who loves reading independently and finds maths 'easy'.
As a Kumon Instructor, I get real satisfaction out of seeing my students grow in confidence and I am driven by the opportunity to help my students in their journey to achieve their full potential and become eager and independent learners.
I look forward to working with both parents and students to help make this goal a reality.
