My name is Denise Heneghan and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Galway City West Study Centre.
Before I became an Instructor, there were two strands to my working life; an industrial career in Technical Management, underpinned by two masters degrees in Engineering and Business Administration respectively; and my voluntary commitments as a community leader and working alongside voluntary providers of informal music education, underpinned by diplomas in Youth Work and Community Development. Becoming a Kumon Instructor has enabled me to combine my experiences from these roles.
The exceptional core values of Kumon initially attracted me to explore it further and become an Instructor. I realised it was an excellent match for the skills I had already developed. The fact that Kumon is child-centred, its commitment to liberate potential and its belief that we can all become full, well rounded individuals who contribute to a global society also attracted me. That we would develop (and become!) contributors to a global society has a fundamental resonance for me and the team of very experienced assistants who make the Galway centre what it is. The entire team at the centre are carefully selected for their proven experience in working with young people over an extended period of time, for their individual academic and personal attributes and for their personal achievements due to extended commitment and perseverance.
Since being an Instructor, I have found that children, who often approach Kumon first with nervousness, quickly become confident. I have witnessed their excitement at the prospect of being largely in command of their own success and development and they learn, first hand, how small, regular, honest acts of commitment and perseverance build to big achievements. The growth of students both in confidence and personality is the most rewarding aspect of being an Instructor and a member of staff at the centre. However, we also love to hear stories of prizes achieved, accolades earned in school and elsewhere, as a result of their Kumon experience. We always try to find a way to celebrate these experiences.
At the centre, we want to develop young people who know how to convert a dream to a reality through perseverance, and who readily progress through the education journey to achieve excellent employment.
We look forward to welcoming you to the centre.
