The Stranorlar Kumon study centre opened in November 2005 and welcomes students of all ages and abilities. Students travel from areas across County Donegal and Celia also has a number of students who study via correspondence.
The Stranorlar centre is situated in the Parish Centre on Main Street. At present students range from 4 years old up to 16 years of age and some have been studying since the centre opened. Committed study of the programme has boosted many students' confidence and self-esteem and some students have improved dramatically in their ability. Students and parents alike have commented on the difference studying has made to behaviour, concentration, motivation and ability.
Question: You are open from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Does my child have to stay the whole time?
Answer: No. The time spent at class will vary depending on whether a student does one or both subjects but a student will probably spend around 20 – 30 minutes in the class and parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area during this time. Students can come at the time that is most convenient for them; some arrive early and leave early whilst others have a journey after school and come later.
Question: Do I have to stay with my child?
Answer: In order to maintain the quiet working atmosphere in class and to encourage our students to be independent there is a waiting area for parents and siblings. Vital communication between parents and Celia is maintained by telephone, email, and a six-monthly parents meeting.
