My name is Eamonn Pollard and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Waterford Study Centre.
Before I became a Kumon Instructor, I worked as a primary school teacher for over 30 years, in nearby Tramore.
Throughout that time I constantly sought ways to improve my methods of teaching of maths and English, and to help my students advance. I always encouraged my pupils to read as much as possible and introduced a reading programme, where pupils read books of their own choice, ahead of their reading ability.
Upon my retirement, I began working as a private tutor, but soon felt that tutoring was only a short term fix. I then found out about the Kumon Method of Learning, which gives each child the opportunity to fulfil their own potential through self – learning, which tutoring cannot, and I felt this was the perfect fit for me.
Now I have opened my own study centre I know Kumon is exactly what I was looking for. It provides students with the training they need to progress to a level of analytical thinking they will be able to use in all subjects and even beyond school, and at the same time allows the child to progress at their own pace.
The most rewarding part of working in education is watching your pupils succeed. I have been lucky enough to experience this many times in my career as a teacher, and now as a Kumon Instructor I know that I will experience it many more times.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you and your child in this rewarding endeavour.
