"I find schoolwork easier to understand and complete. My mental arithmetic has improved and I can do my sums in my head."
Peter Rogers (aged 9), Yate Study Centre

About the centre

Before starting class, I meet with each student and their parents for an enrolment. Here I can explain in more detail the principles of Kumon study and what we are trying to achieve. At this meeting, the child completes a short diagnostic exercise, which enables me to start them at just the right level within the programme. We also agree a study projection, so students and parents can see what they are aiming towards.

Students normally attend class once or twice a week for about 25-30 minutes each visit. Students are given work to complete at home on the other days of the week.

In class, students exchange completed work for their next set of homework. They will then complete their work for that day. This gives us the opportunity to observe students working and suggest improvements in their technique. While completing their class work, homework is checked and recorded.

Once the student has completed their class work, it will be marked. While this is happening, students complete a number board. Those studying maths will have their skills tested orally. Students studying English will practice reading aloud. Students then collect their class work and do any corrections, so that they leave having achieved 100%.

All students see me before they leave class. This gives us the chance to talk about their progress and goals and I can give them appropriate feedback and praise.
