The Kumon Method of Learning was developed in 1954 by Toru Kumon, both a parent and gifted teacher from Japan. He discovered his own son, Takeshi, was not fulfilling his potential in maths at school and so created worksheets for him to do at home every day. We still stand firm to the founding principles outlined by Toru Kumon today.
We believe all children have enormous and often untapped potential and that, through developing strong maths and English skills, they can experience all round academic success. Through our unique method, children are supported to advance beyond their school level, at their own pace, preparing them to succeed in an increasingly global community.
The Kumon Institute of Education was established in 1958 and is now the leading worldwide supplementary education provider, with over 4 million children studying with Kumon across the globe. This means that every minute of every day, a child is benefitting from Kumon study.
The Kumon Maths and English Programmes were launched in Ireland in 2000 and have since supported thousands of students to master the fundamental skills so important to improve their overall academic performance. With each day of Kumon study, a child develops in both their academic ability and their confidence, as they experience success and work out how to overcome challenges by themselves.
We are very proud of our heritage and are continually amazed by the true potential of children.
