About our centre

At the Kumon Celbridge Study Centre, your child will be supported by two dedicated and experienced Instructors: Stephen Ussher and Leandra Fachini.

Stephen Ussher, originally from County Kildare, has been a Kumon Instructor for over 10 years, having opened the Kumon Lucan Study Centre in 2015. With a background in mathematics and a decade of experience helping children reach their potential, Stephen has guided hundreds of students to develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning through Kumon study.

Leandra Fachini brings a wealth of Kumon experience, with five years as an Instructor in Brazil and five years at the Kumon Lucan Centre. She has worked with students of all ages and abilities, supporting them to grow step by step and achieve long-term success in both maths and English. Her patient, encouraging approach helps each child to feel confident and motivated on their learning journey.

Together, Stephen and Leandra are committed to ensuring that every student at the Celbridge centre has the opportunity to thrive—building strong academic skills and developing the independence to succeed well beyond the classroom.

About your Instructor

My name is Stephen Ussher and I am the proud Instructor at the Kumon Lucan and Celbridge Study Centre—a celebration that now marks 10 years of nurturing independent learners in Lucan and continue to do the same at my new Kumon centre in Celbridge. 

Education has always been both my passion and my purpose. With a degree in Mathematics from the Dublin Institute of Technology and a postgraduate qualification in Public Relations, my professional journey began in the motor industry. After six years in that field, I chose to pursue my lifelong calling—making a difference in education.

In 2012, I initially joined Kumon as Area Manager for Ireland and Northern Ireland. In that role, I deepened my understanding of the Kumon programmes in both math and English, gaining firsthand insight into how tailored, systematic instruction can empower students. My experience during those formative years shaped the approach I bring to the Lucan centre every day.

Fast-forward to 2025, and I’ve been honoured to serve as your local Instructor for a full decade—partnering with families, witnessing thousands of students become confident, independent, and enthusiastic learners.

Together with my highly experienced team, we remain as committed as ever to giving every student the best opportunity to grow. Our goal on every class day is simple: that each learner leaves with more confidence, ability, and self-belief than when they walked in.

We look forward to continuing this journey with you at both our centres, Lucan and newly opened Kumon Celbridge.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
