About this centre
The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.
Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Because Kumon does not follow the school curriculum and work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with up to twice weekly study centre visits, they will build both self-confidence and crucial skills in small manageable steps.
Hi, my name is David Browne and I have been the Instructor in Stillorgan since 2011.
My background is in retail management. I went into retail after I graduated in English and Economics from University College Dublin. I spent over 15 years in this sector working in single unit specialist boutiques and large multinationals. While working in retail I had many opportunities to run training courses for colleagues and to mentor new staff. This is where my desire to work in education came from. My wife ran a Kumon centre and from there I gained my early experience. I volunteered as a junior member of her staff, working with early learners right up to senior students. I learned the business behind Kumon from the ground up. This experience has allowed me to focus so much more of my time and energy on my own students.
I find my greatest joy in Kumon is in seeing students succeed week in/week out, watching them grow in confidence as their knowledge expands and they discover just how self-reliant they are. In Stillorgan, my team and I ensure every student is provided with the opportunity to reach their potential and exceed it.
We look forward to welcoming new students to begin their own Kumon Journey

Study takes around 30 minutes per subject a day, depending on age and level of the work. At the moment, study is at home but classes will be open for study again as soon as it is safe to do so.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
